“Hardcore Pawn” premiers Aug. 16 on TBS, the Detroit Free Press reports. Two pilot episodes were shown in December.

The show features American Jewelry and Loan in Detroit and its owner, Les Gold, who runs the store with his wife Lili and children Seth Gold and Ashley Broad.

Gold promises the show features “Detroit as it really is” with all transactions between his family and employees and their customers real ones.

Gold said being a reality TV star is not a road to riches, saying he was paid almost nothing for putting in 10- to 12-hour days during filming.

But he could find another way to make money if he follows the example of the owners of Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas. “Pawn Stars” has made the store a tourist attraction, and visitors buy T-shirts and hats even if they do not need emergency loans to do so.

My worst fear realized. This show had a debut in December, I had hoped that would be the last of it. It sensationalizes the worst of out industry lets hope for abysmal rating…

Buying and owning a gun is difficult enough.  In addition to hoops that the state of Florida makes you jump through to own a gun there is also the expense of getting a concealed weapons permit if you want one.

To buy a weapon from a retail store in Florida you have to meet these requirements.

  • you must be 18 to own a long gun (rifle or shotgun)
  • you must be 21 to own a handgun
  • you must pass a FDLE background check
  • depending on the county in which you purchase your weapon you will have to wait up to 3 business days unless you have a CWP or trade another weapon in.

You can also purchase a weapon from a Florida citizen with significantly less paperwork, but you run the risk of the weapon being stolen or subject to seizure if it had been used in a crime.

Be careful when you purchase from anyone other than a licensed dealer.  If your weapon had been stolen or used in a crime you will be facing some conversations with your local LEO and possibly a Federal agent.

The ATF also has there hand in how you acquire your weapon.  Because of the way the rules are setup you will be restricted to buying your weapon from a Florida dealer unless you want to buy from out of state.  If you buy your weapon from any of the popular websites like gunbroker.com or budsgunshop.com then you will have to have your weapon sent to a Florida dealer who then transfers it to you.

This additional step is the focus of this article as I believe these rules really restrict gun ownership as a hobby because the fees to transfer weapons have become in some cases almost prohibitive.  While the average we have seen lately is around $25-$30 per weapon we have seen as high as $75 PER GUN!

These fees make buying or collecting guns like old .22′s very difficult to do.  Even if you could find an old Sears model I on gunbroker.com you could almost double the cost of it between shipping and taxes and transfer fees.

Because we are gun lovers too, Big Tim’s has set a very gun friendly transfer policy.

You can transfer up to 5 weapons at a time for $20.  That’s it, real simple.  Long guns, handguns, $50 gun, $5000 gun.  Also if you are a Big Tim’s customer we will for the cost of the shipping send your weapon to another FFL for no charge.

A lot of businesses say they are customer friendly but we really love what we do.  Seeing the look on our customers face when they get that long sought after gun at a reasonable price makes our day.

Big Tim’s knows that gun ownership is not for everyone.  But if you love guns like we do, send your next purchase to us.  We will do everything we can to make it a smooth transfer.

Here is how to make it simple.

Call us first 727-828-1388 and we will get your information in our system so when you find a gun you are ready to go.

Whether you purchase from a auction or an individual we can handle the details.  Get the fax number or email address from your seller and we will take over.

Once your weapon comes in we call you to let you know it is in our gunlog and can be picked up.

Go to the website www.bigtimspawn.com and get all the details or call us we will walk you through it anytime.
